Hello Blog and Hello 2019

New phone who dis?

Only kidding.  It has been a heck of a long time since I last posted on my blog and I’ve been meaning to get back to it for so long, but each time I sit to write, I don’t know how to start back.  So instead of a big catch up or explanation for being off the radar for so long… I think it’s easier to just jump back in and get that out of the blue post done and dusted.  Break the seal.

I also changed the name of the blog!  I am hoping James and the boys will start contributing to it regularly too, so it is more of a family blog.

So excited for this year.  Happy 2019 everyone!

Changing Things Up…

12049474_10153346210383025_1172331338627242789_n

I’ve moved to a new domain.  For several reasons!

I’ve been lagging BADLY on the whole blogging front for a while now with Outmumbered.  I totally lost my mojo and I was starting to feel like the title and overall feel of my blog didn’t suit new things I had to write about.  I felt a little bit pigeon-holed.

Another reason is that I’d like to shift the focus a little from being ONLY about my two amazing little boys, to being a little more about the things I love.  Obviously, I’ll continue to write about the boys…. but making my blog a space for everything and anything rather than writing a ‘mum blog’, gives me a little more post freedom.

In changing the focus a little… I mean to give my boys a little more privacy as they grow older.  I’m very aware that in the early years, my posts are not dissimilar to many other new parents… when the boys were little they would do the same things as other little kids… but as they get older and their individual personalities really shine, I think they need more of a say in what I share online and I need to think more carefully about my posts..

I’ve given thought to this whole blogging thing in the last few weeks… mostly a niggling feeling for having not posted in so long.  What is that about??  Blogging should be fun!  I love writing and I don’t know where the self imposed guilt came from but I am hoping with the new domain and blog name (which by the way… is my roller derby name!!), I can shake it up a little and write to my hearts content without trying to make my posts fit to a certain mum-blog mould!  I was considering dropping my blog… but having kept it up for more than 7 years now, I couldn’t just quit like that.  I love my blog and the important details and memories that I have safe and recorded!

My Inspiration

It’s going to sound soppy, but my mum is my biggest inspiration.  Is that awfully clichéd?

My mum hasn’t had it easy peasy in life.  She has had more than her fair share of bumps in the road.  Her childhood wasn’t as easy as mine was and when I was in my 5th year of high school she and my dad divorced.  She raised the 3 of us and kept her head up when things were hard. I am where I am today, first and foremost because of my mum’s huge influence.  An influence which at times growing up, got on my nerves.  But looking back I know I wouldn’t be who I am, where I am, if things had been any different.  She is pretty much one of the strongest people I know and I’m proud to call her my mum.  Always the first person I’d call (after my husband) if I’m upset or in some sort of predicament and she is always right there with words of wisdom.  She’s an amazing Grandma too.  If I could be anything like my mum is some day, then I’d be pretty awesome! 🙂

What I’m Looking Forward To!

So today I ran a 5k fun run… The Color Run to be exact and it was amazing.  But in this very instant, the thing I am most looking forward to is eating a huge dinner and then sleeping a long sleep.  That’s the immediate future.

Apart from food and sleep… I am really looking forward to Ollie going back to school. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the bones of that kid and have enjoyed our summer together, but time is going on, weather isn’t great…. and he has so much ENERGY!!!  I think we must be one of the only places that have summer breaks that last for 9 weeks.  It’s too long in my opinion.  4 or 5 would suffice don’t you think?  4 or 5 for summer and add an extra week to Halloween break and another to Christmas break.  9 weeks of finding things all day every day to occupy this little dude who is used to having every moment of the day catered for him at school.  “Mummy I am bored”, “Can I buy this?”, “Can I have a snack?” (that last one gets said about 25 times a day!).  I love him to pieces but he needs so much more mental stimulation than I can give.  He is excited too, about going back to school and we have really enjoyed the weeks we have had together including our little trip away to Scotland.

I Am Here!

So here I am, sitting in my mum’s garden, after a really crappy morning (failed my driving test for the second time).  We are here for a BBQ because it was my birthday on Tuesday.  A brighter end to my day than the start of my day haha!

I haven’t blogged in over 2 weeks now despite having a ton of ‘summer blogging’ ideas floating around in my head!  The weather here has been amazing and we have been spending most of our time outside!  I guess that I’ve been on an unintentional blogging break and it’s been nice!

James is now off work for a couple of weeks (well the first week is nearly over already) and we are having a lot of fun spending time together as a family… but I will get posts up soon!

Happy Birthday To… My Husband and My Little Blog!

Happy Birthday to James… who is now 33!!  Enjoy your new iPad 🙂

This is a little belated.  I didn’t actually remember the proper date of my first post on my blog until I looked back tonight.  I wrote my first post on 19th January 2008!  I was halfway through my pregnancy with Ollie and had been keeping a scrapbook type thing, when James suggested I start a blog instead.  That was the start of it.

My blog has been known by multiple names over the years… the first being ‘Bump, Baby and Beyond’… it was then called ‘Toddler Awesome’, ‘Boy Oh Boy’ and now ‘Outmumbered’!  It has been on Blogger and now WordPress (moving every single little post with me!).

So much has happened since I started this blog!  I gave birth to little Ollie, we relocated from Dublin to Belfast (having lived there for a couple of years), we bought a house a year later, we got pregnant with our second baby but miscarried, we got pregnant a third time and again we miscarried, I became a Godmother to a gorgeous little man… and I fell pregnant for the 4th time.  This pregnancy was meant to be and I gave birth to Nate January of last year.  Our amazing little family of 3 was suddenly an amazing family of 4 and things have been so so good.  To top it all off, James and I reached a milestone of 5 years in our marriage… here’s to many more!

Ollie’s whole life has been documented this far.  Nate’s whole life too… who knows where this little blog will go, but I feel like I won’t ever be able to stop.  Haha!  How could I?  I’ve written more than 700 posts on this little blog of mine, and consider it to be the boy’s baby books.  It records all the important moments… first teeth, first steps, first day at school!!!

Thanks to those of you who continue to read what I’m writing 🙂 and thanks to James for the idea of starting a blog, who knew I would still be going strong?
